UPSs also extend hard drive life in houses with central air by around 2 to 3 years in my experience. Watch your lights when your ac unit kicks on, I'm willing to bet that they dim just briefly well that means all the power in your house dims for just that second kinda like a mini brown out and that is what wares out hard drives cause they slow down for a second then must spin back up faster for less than a second but over the course of the years it adds up.
