EC dropping
Aug.23, 2009, under Computer|Internet|Tech
I am dropping EC right now to cover up for the days of my absence. But EC won’t sort the cards that I have dropped on. On the upper right portion above the pages, it says that I have few drops made. But when I will visit my dashboard, it says that I don’t have cards dropped for today. I am hoping EC’s system will be working well soon as I do personally like EC a lot!

Uninterruptible Power Supplies
Jun.02, 2009, under Computer|Internet|Tech, Tips
One thing I have found very useful is the uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).The UPS not only serves as a battery backup in case the power fails it also keeps a constant voltage with no power fluctuations so if the power company has a power surge or there is a close by lightning strike it will be absorbed into the UPS and keep the voltage constant to your computer. I not only have separate UPS on the desktop computers I also have a separate one that my modem, router, printer and VOIP equipment shares. The power in my area is very dependable and rarely fails but if the power does fail the UPS gives you plenty of time to save your projects or files and shut down your computer properly. To me the UPS is well worth the moderate investment and can save you taking the chance of losing your expensive computer equipment.
Sapphire Raedon HD 4670

The last couple of weeks while playing World Of Warcraft (WOW) my desktop computer kept popping up a warning that the graphics card was severely overheating. Thinking that it might have been dust build up inside the computer I took it apart and blew all the dust out. This seemed to help for a couple of days but the warnings started again just while playing WOW. I took the side panel off and observed the fan on the graphics card while playing and it was defiantly overheating. The graphics card I had in there was a 512 MB and was almost three years old so it was about time to upgrade it with a newer model anyway. After shopping around comparing and reading numerous reviews I decided on buying a Sapphire
This graphics card has duel DVI so if you want to use multiple monitors it has the capability. It also has an S cable output so if you want to watch it on your television you can also do that. The frame rate (FPS) in WOW jumped a full 10 FPS not on ultra graphic settings but just under. In Dalaran and other major cities it averages right around 30 FPS and away from the cities it averages right around 60 FPS. While this graphics card works very well it is also very reasonably priced at just under 87.00 dollars and for a limited time also has a 10.00 dollar rebate which makes it even more reasonably priced. I have been using this graphics card for several days and I couldn’t be more pleased with it.

VOIP Phones
Apr.09, 2009, under Computer|Internet|Tech
One thing I have found use full for VOIP is the phones you plug into your router. The headphones and microphone work well but you have to stay a certain distance from your computer to use them and after awhile they get a bit uncomfortable being over your ears especially if it’s hot. The first VOIP phone I purchased was a reasonably priced Linksys SPA 921 .This phone looks very nice and has many nice features. It was easily configurable with your browser by the network ip address your router assigns to it or if a static network the ip number you assign it. This phone is very quiet with no distortion whatsoever. However it is a corded phone so you do have to stay a certain distance from where it’s plugged in. I used the SPA 921 for quite awhile then I was thinking about a little mobility and decided to get a VOIP adaptor you plug into your router and can use a cordless phone with. After reading reviews and doing a lot of shopping around I decided to purchase a Linksys internet phone adaptor. This was also very reasonably priced and same as the SPA 921 it is configurable with your browser. After connecting it to the router all you have to do is plug your cordless phone into the adaptor and configure it for your VOIP then start dialing. This Linksys PAP2T also has no voice distortion and the quality is excellent.
Windows 7

Microsoft published possibly accidently? On their Windows 7 center that the release candidate for the Windows 7 operating system will be publically available for download the last week in May but quickly took it offline. The release candidate is supposed to have an expiration date of June 1st 2010 so plenty of time to try out all the new features and for general testing purposes before you have to purchase the final operating system after it is released. The windows 7 beta was mostly trouble free at least on the computer I tested it on so the release candidate should be as close as you’re going to get to the final retail version. As for me I’m looking forward to the last week in May.
Internet Explorer 8
Mar.24, 2009, under Computer|Internet|Tech
I just recently downloaded the newly released IE-8 and installed it on my desktop computer. So far IE-8 seems to work well and is definatly faster then the previous versions. IE-8 is supposed to be the most secure ever with SmartScreen that blocks sites and downloads that have been reported unsafe that pops up a warning message telling you that it reccomends you do not procede with the download or loading of the web page though I have yet to see this but i’m sure sooner or later I will get my chance. I can remember my first browser was Netscape and in it’s day was a very popular browser but seemed to eventually lose it’s popularity when Microsoft released there browser. Not sure if Netscape still has a current version of it’s browser? Seems to me like AOL bought the rights to Netscape years ago but can not remember for sure about that. Right now I think Mozilla is the most popular browser followed by IE and seeing more of the Google Chrome starting to show up on my web logs.
